RIGHT IN TWO by TOOL

This song is about how beautiful the God’s creation, our home ‘Earth’ is and what we ‘Silly Monkeys’ i.e Humans have done to it. The video starts with God shaping our planet i.e in ‘Satyuga’ and progresses to the present ‘Kalyuga’. In the whole video, angels are baffled and confused. They’re questioning ‘Why did Father give these Humans free will?’ cause now we’re all so confused. We, humans, have made all the wrong choices. God didn’t create Earth so that it could be divided “right in two”. Whenever there’s one, we’re bound to divide it. This video shows exactly what we “The Children Of God’ have done.

Don’t we already know that Eden i.e God has enough to worry about? He has the whole universe to take care of. Even one wrong movement of the particles in the galaxy can end us. But no, we continuously feed him with all miseries and when not taken care of, this what we choose.

Now again, the angels say that father blessed us with consciousness. Here, you need to know a story. When God made Earth, he shaped the first man Adam and then created the first woman, Eve. God put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. He told Adam and Eve that they could eat any fruit from the trees except for the tree of ‘Good and Evil.’ He warned them that ‘you must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’

One fine day, Satan, the evil, came disguised as a snake and spoke to Eve, convincing her to eat the fruit from the tree of ‘Good and Evil.’ She says that God doesn’t want them to eat it because ‘God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’ When Eve saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from him among the trees of the garden. But he called to the man, “Where are you?” Adam answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from.’ The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

So the God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, “Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

To Eve he said, “I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor, you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”

To Adam, he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil, you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.

By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust, you will return.” Adam named his wife Eve because she would become the mother of all the living.

The God then made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. He says that “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever. So the LORD God banished him from the ‘Garden of Eden’ to work the ground from which he had been taken.

After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

God never wanted all of this to happen. He wanted Earth to be a beautiful place where all the living beings stay as one. They didn’t have consciousness. None of them. Now cause he ate from the tree of ‘Good and Evil’, humans were conscious. Why did he give us free will at the end? Why? For us to do destroy our home??

Did God divide the nature, the land, the animals and distributed it to us? We’ve all done it ourselves. We’re killing each other over pieces of the ground. Even if we’re given a thumb, we’ll forge it to a blade cause that’s how we’ve exploited everything. We haven’t left even animals out of this. They didn’t choose all of this. They didn’t have free will like us so why are they being punished?

God sees us all. He’s watching over us and he doesn’t seem to understand what the fuck we humans are doing. There’s war everywhere. WAR!WAR!WAR! We silly monkeys give each other a thumbs up and make a club to beat our brother down. We’re fighting over the clouds, over wind, and over the sky and killing each other over life, over blood, over air and light, over the sun, over love, over another. There’s war everywhere for the time, for the one, for the rise and how do we still survive so misguided? With all the consciousness and the knowledge about good and evil. It’s still a mystery.

We’re all referred as ‘repugnant’ in the song. Repugnant is a creature who wastes his ability to lift an eye to heaven and being conscious of his fleeting time here.

God is very angry and that is shown to be the cause of all the natural calamities but we silly monkeys are blindfolded by our ego and evilness and yes, we don’t give a fuck about it. We always fail to see it.

On one hand, when God has consciousness, he created Earth. But our beautiful invention is a hypocritical society. The video shows a very powerful scene where there is a factory and mothers are giving birth to their children like some manufacturing process and they’re all moving on a belt, i.e customs that society has created.

Various beliefs in the society that is senseless to me have been shown in the video. We’re simply blinded and bound to follow them since we’re born. No one chooses his caste, religion, language or even his complexion. He doesn’t have a say.

Is this really a free will? Are we making the right choices? That’s the question we need to ask ourselves. It seems to me that someone who you don’t even know started all this bullshit and we’re simply following them. Do you really want to be a follower of someone you don’t even know?

The society has these powerful authorities who have control over us all as the video shows and when God tries to rip them apart, we see what happens to him. His existence is no more. So lastly, I want to ask you a question. Does God still exist in the world that we’ve built? Ponder over it and let me know your perception.

This planet was meant to be a happy place, there wasn’t supposed to be a heaven. Earth was heaven but we’ve converted it into something even worse than Hell. Why Discrimination? Why are we always cutting and dividing everything right in two? Why can’t we live as one like a big family where there are peace and tranquility? Are all these wars really necessary?

At the end of the song, angels are still baffled and confused. They’re wondering when this tug of war will end and they’ve been patient long enough to see a difference but there’s no end to it.

We’re the next generation, the ‘Generation X’. Let’s think out of the box. ALSO, REMEMBER THAT ‘ALL OUR PROBLEMS ARE OUR CREATIONS’. They won’t have any existence if you don’t let them have one.

I’ve created a video of the song so that you can understand it better. Click: Watch it here!
